Prevalence and assessment of polygamy in Uzbekistan

Article Abstract:

Quantitative and qualitative methods are used to obtain data in order to assess the prevalence of polygamy, and particularly bigamy, in Uzbekistan. Analysis suggests that the practice of entering into a second religious, that is, noncivil marriage without dissolving the first civil marriage is widespread, especially among affluent men, but is not accepted by the public's sense of morality, even as the practice of polygamy is accepted slightly more in cities than in villages.

Morbus Hungaricus, or the demographic crisis in Hungary

Article Abstract:

Tuberculosis, which was called as Morbus Hungaricus, meaning the Hungarian disease, had massively spread in Hungary prior to World War II. In the present context, the same name is given to the decline in the Hungarian population that is observed in all regions, and the factors leading to the decline could be emigration, natural loss, or assimilation, though specialists studying the cause for decline differ on the decisive factors.
