Professional retraining of highly educated immigrant professionals

Article Abstract:

Professional retraining is a significant and effective method for improving any nation's workforce and has a particularly pivotal part in countries with high immigration levels. An evaluative study by the Israeli Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs on its social work retraining programs, their problem areas, the difficulties encountered by both instructors and re-trainees and how they fared after graduation is discussed.

Training social workers to evaluate practice

Article Abstract:

Training social workers on how to evaluate practice, particularly on the use of single-system design method, positively affected the workers practice. However, workers did not continue to evaluate their clinical work sometime after the training. Lack of supervision and agency support, insufficient time and research skills and interference with practice were the most common factors for not using the method.

Participatory developmental research: a working model

Article Abstract:

This article examines the development of a social service model based upon participatory research in South Africa. The authors, focusing on research conducted at a children's home, maintain the new model is being developed in an effort to provide more efficient service, is directed toward new researcher-practitioners, and is intended to facilitate collaborative working practices.
