Psychosocial correlates and depression in Vietnamese adolescents

Article Abstract:

Post-traumatic stress disorder, peer and death stressors are important causal factors of depression for the Vietnamese teenagers. Although self-esteem accounts for 30% of the total variance, it is not a significant predictor of stress. The important associations between the stressful life event (SLE) measures and depression reveal the adjustment difficulties experienced by the adolescents during the acculturation process. An examination of the culturally-specific SLE is essential for an understanding the etiology of depression in the Vietnamese adolescents.
