The polls - a review: the 1992 British election: the failure of the polls

Article Abstract:

Public opinion polls taken before the 1992 General Election in Great Britain predicted a very close race between Conservative and Labour Party members. The 7.6% victory margin of the Conservatives revealed flaws in the polling methods. Factors that contribute to the discrepancy include sample bias based on political party and lies by respondents. Ways to remedy sample bias are described, and include reporting refusal rates, changing quota controls and increasing the sample size.
