Religion and old age

Article Abstract:

Most older people in the West still lead conventional lifestyles and practice traditional forms of religion. For most of the elderly who belong to modern societies, religion has a positive effect. This was revealed by a study of the interconnections between religion and old age in the West. The study also considered current trends where New Age thinking has resulted in the establishment of quasi-religious movements, as well as the regrouping of religions to combat the challenges posed by the modern or post-modern society.

Sub sole nihil novi

Article Abstract:

The pagan festival of Saturnalia is an alternative to Christmas, which it replaced. It was a Roman festival which could last for a week or more and involved parties and games. Gifts had to be given to friends and acquaintances and included old clothes for freedmen, and jars of plums or silverware for others. Slaves were allowed leisure time, and owners had to be tolerant of their bad behavior. Only poets and philosophers were permitted to ignore the festival.
