Victimization and diabetes: an exploratory study

Article Abstract:

Some 130 patients with a past history of abuse were surveyed to study whether child and domestic abuse could contribute to the likelihood of developing diabetes. Since child and domestic abuse were found to be chronic stressors, the study concluded that past victimization may make former victims of abuse more susceptible to diabetes or to its symptoms than nonabused individuals. The study further suggests that past victimization could likewise lead to a host of other health problems.

Sexual abuse simulated by schistosomiasis

Article Abstract:

Two case studies involving two Nigerian girls who exhibited physical manifestations of child abuse are discussed. The indications included itching lesion in the perineum and various vulval, perineal warty growths and bloody vaginal discharge. Both cases were successfully cured with anthelmintic drugs. It was concluded that the medical conditions described were due to a parasitic disease and probably not due to child abuse.
