Exegetical explorations: Parsons' problematic aim

Article Abstract:

The ongoing and close exegetical study of sociology's theoretical texts is promoted drawing attention to two instances where Talcott Parsons' theory project are at odds with itself. Parsons believed that sociological theory would be formulated in terms of normative frame of reference and it is noted that Parsons was trying to identify a new norm for social theory.

Combat in the dissertation zone

Article Abstract:

The relation between the dissertation zone and the field of sociology is discussed. Dissertations can be both scientific, addressed to peers, while also addressing significant problems of present, although very few departments can afford to allow their graduate students to take this path.

Power influences self-esteem

Article Abstract:

Influences of high power and low power positions on self-esteem are studied. Findings reveal that high power position results in increase in self-esteem whereas low position results in decrease in self-esteem.
