The tie that binds: downtowns, suburbs, and the dependence hypothesis
Article Abstract:
The geographic dependence of cities and suburbs to each other has been a topic of debates since the early 1980s. Discussion centers on whether either the central city or the suburbs rely on the other economically or whether a condition of interdependence prevails. Using the downtown area and suburbs of Cleveland, OH, a case study was made to offer an alternative argument, namely, that the downtown area is dependent on its edge cities and suburbs. Results show that the central city does depend on the suburbs to a greater extent than the suburbs depend on the central city.

Medicines and the maintenance of ordinariness in the household management of childhood asthma
Article Abstract:
Issues concerning caring for children with asthma and the maintenance of ordinariness in such households are discussed. Nine families with asthmatic children are discussed, and medicines were found to support the ordinariness of the child and family far more readily than other preventive measures and thus were the key resource for maintaining this quality.
