Article Abstract:

Religious study developed as an interdisciplinary subject in the 1960s, and has grown significantly as a result of the contributions from social sciences and humanities fields. Wayne A. Meeks' 1983 analysis of the sociology of early Christianity was one of the pioneering applications of sociology to religious studies. Week's analysis challenged traditional theories that the early Christianity movement was peasant-based in favour of a urban-based movement.

Border crossings between women's studies and sociology

Article Abstract:

Women's studies is essentially an interdisciplinary subject, analysing the participation of men and women in society from a variety of cultural and historical perspectives. The discipline emerged in the 1970s as a result of the women's movement and is now featured at almost all universities and colleges in the US. The relationship between women's studies and sociology is analysed.
