Remembrance of emotional speech: improvement and impairment of incidental verbal memory by emotional voice

Article Abstract:

Emotional speech can capture attention, and either enhance or detract from incidental verbal memory for an overheard communication, depending on how demanding a concurrent task is. Negative emotional intonations improve incidental verbal memory of a sentence in a highly demanding memory span task, whereas both negative and positive intonations impair the memory when the task-demand is low. The results suggest that attention to an emotional speech is divided between the verbal content and the vocal tone.

Providing and withholding impression management support for romantic partners: gender of the audience matters

Article Abstract:

Studies indicate that people who express stronger feelings for their dating partners adjusted the descriptions of the significant others to help them make a desirable impression on a same-sex but not opposite-sex. However, the beneficial impression management highlights that controlling the information expressed to others can be driven by more or less selfless motives.
