Research awards in the society for social work and research, 1996-2000

Article Abstract:

The results of a document analysis of 299 journal articles nominated for outstanding research awards between 1996 and 2000 and 5 exemplary social work research are presented. It is observed that articles were rated on a variety of characteristics such as research design, method, and analysis strategy and that such research can be useful for understanding the current status of social work research.

Conduct problems and peer rejection in childhood: A randomized trial of the making choices and strong families programs

Article Abstract:

The effectiveness of a multicomponent intervention designed to disrupt developmental processes associated with conduct problems and peer rejection in childhood is discussed. Studies that focus on strengthening the social problem solving skills of aggressive children demonstrate significant improvements in self esteem and conduct.

Early development and pilot testing of a problem-solving skills-training program for children

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to examine the impact of a prototype problem-solving skills-training program and making choices. The result from the study revealed the preliminary evidence of the effectiveness of making choices and guided refinement of the prototype program.
