Route of cocaine administration: Patterns of use and problems among a Brazilian sample

Article Abstract:

Route of administration is significant in the understanding of drug addiction and related problems. A study researched patterns of consumption and cocaine-related problems among users in Sao Paulo. Crack cocaine users had more social and health problems and more involvement in crime than intranasal users. Their greater involvement in prostitution places them at higher risk from HIV infection and other sexually transmitted diseases.

HIV risks among homeless men differentiated by cocaine use and psychiatric distress

Article Abstract:

HIV risks of homeless men with cocaine and psychiatric problems are evaluated. It was found that cocaine users with high psychiatric distress levels have higher HIV risk scores than noncocaine users and users with lower levels of distress. The risks are also aggravated by the cocaine users' tendency to ignore safe sexual practices such as wearing of condoms and avoiding commercial sex.
