Showing and telling farming: Agricultural shows and re-imaging British agriculture

Article Abstract:

Agricultural societies are making efforts to inform the non-farming sections of society about farming by staging agricultural shows that depict a particular image of agriculture. As the shows do not include mainstream agricultural content and present restricted and selective image of farming, they create distance and separation between farming and non-farmers.

Young women's attitudes towards agriculture and women's new roles in the Greek countryside: a first approach

Article Abstract:

A study of 50 unmarried Greek women between the ages of 18 and 30 who live in rural areas reveals negative attitudes towards farming for employment. Other topics discussed include, reasons why women want to move away from rural areas, such as their limited non-agriculture labor market and social isolation.

Pets and protein: palcing domestic livestock on hobby-farms in England and Wales

Article Abstract:

Hobby-farming can be seen as a unique environment where animals are simultaneously regarded as pets and livestock, or friends and food sources. Research at such farms in England and Wales has disclosed ethical ambiguities of human-animal relationships.
