Sociology and the goal of generalization

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to analyze the importance of two insights that lie at the foundation of sociology and are responsible for its unique contribution to the study of human behavior. The first insight is that social behavior is limited by the context in which it occurs. The second is that individual actions and contextual factors interact in a reciprocal and dynamic manner to influence social events. Therefore, the future of sociology rests on the ability to identify and conceptualize the contextual determinants of social action.

In search of identity in Korean sociology

Article Abstract:

Korea's division into two distinct societies, a democratic and a communist society, has sown confusion regarding the identity of its sociology. Most contemporary Korean journals are influenced by American literature, making it difficult to determine which materials are influenced by Korean sociologists. However, books written by known Korean sociologists such as Choi, Shin and Park are devoted to identifying the real identity of Korean sociology amidst the confusion brought about by the separation of Korea.

An argument is presented regarding the foundations of 'central theory' provided by the work of Norbert Elias with diverse theoretical traditions within sociology.
