The subterranean economy and the role of private investment in developing countries

Article Abstract:

The subterranean economy is still thriving in developing nations, and its overall impact is generally a positive one. The benefits of the subterranean economy include making essential goods and services available, creating employment and contributing to gross national and domestic product. The subterranean economy has arisen because developing nations have not been able to meet the basic requirements of citizens, and it should therefore be permitted to flourish, since the formal sector is in chaos and unable to aid the development effort.

Government's role in the private sector: the case against reregulating cable television

Article Abstract:

There has been a suggestion to reimpose restrictions on the cable television industry which was deregulated during the Reagan era in the 1980s. However, reregulation has been criticized on the grounds that lack of competition in the cable industry will lead to a further deterioration in the transmission quality and escalation in subscription costs. Needless legislation on cable TV has affected the interests of the consumers more than those of the operators.

Countertrade: help or hindrance to less-developed countries

Article Abstract:

Countertrade may be one of the solutions to boost economies in less developed countries (LDC). It is a kind of barter system with less money dealings involved, and has been prevalent for centuries in various forms but has gained momentum only recently to remove trade constraints faced by developing countries. Countertrade has been suggested as one of the alternatives for trade in many current situations.
