Some observations on population, ecosystems and markets

Article Abstract:

Human culture may be analogized to an ecosystem wherein progressive developments lead to increasingly efficient and specialized functions among the members. This view, however, would also incorporate the limitations of physical and biological growth. Inevitably, the growth of the production economy would reach a plateau. The retardation of production growth may be alleviated by alternative market systems. Most probably, with limited growth, people would become defensive concerning their sustenance activities and oppose political measures to cordon off shared resources.

The Mafia threat to freedom in Russia

Article Abstract:

There are close ties between the government and organized crime in Russia. After the fall of the former Soviet Union, no dominant leader has emerged from the rubble. The fight for supremacy continues and this beleaguers the newly instituted government of Boris Yeltsin. Further, the control of large, state-owned corporations has remained in the hands of former communist stalwarts. This compromises the efforts of the Russian government at privatization.

Rural development in Africa: the role of financial markets

Article Abstract:

The economies of most African countries are dependent on their agricultural sector. As such, these countries' need to support their rural areas to achieve economic progress. Unfortunately, the informal financial markets that serve this sector are hampered by their inaccessibility. To remedy this, the African governments should prioritize the formulation of policies that would heighten the status of the rural sector with respect to national interests.
