Stages of change and self-efficacy for controlling drinking and driving: a psychometric analysis

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to examine indicators of self-efficacy and motivation to change with regard to drinking and to drinking and driving using a sample of Driving Under the Influence offenders. A factor analysis of efficacy and stages of change questionnaire responses showed distinct factors for the respective constructs. However, drinking and drinking-and-driving questions of the same type tended to define common factors. Findings indicated that motivations and efficacy for changing drinking behavior are critical for avoiding the drinking-and-driving sequence.

Injury and depression: the mediating effects of self-concept

Article Abstract:

Research determined the effects of pain and work limitation from an occupational injury on one's self-concepts and on the incidence of depression. Findings show that self-esteem, self-efficacy and work limitation are significantly associated with depression. It was also found that both pain and work limitations directly influence depression which in turn is mediated by theeffects of self-esteem and self-efficacy. Such findings support the hypothesis that self-concept has mediating effects on injury and depression.
