Tax increment financing: A tool for local economic development

Article Abstract:

Tax increment financing (TIF) is an alluring tool that allows municipalities to promote economic development by embarking property tax revenue from increases in assessed values within a designated TIF district. TIF has different impacts when land use is considered, such as, commercial TIF districts tend to decrease commercial development in the non-TIF portion of the municipality.

Making the case of faith-friendly government

Article Abstract:

President Bush, earlier in 2003, had issued orders to strengthen the role of religious organizations that take care of the needy. These orders allow groups receiving money from the federal fund to consider faith commitment in hiring decisions.

The Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) is a vehicle to encourage investment by banks in the low income and minority groups. The mortgage lending industry is acknowledging the benefits by investing in these groups and serving these customers.
