The London bombers as self-starters: a case study in indigenous radicalization and the emergence of autonomous cliques

Article Abstract:

The emergence of autonomous, indigenous cliques has to be studied in a sociological background rather than as a network because they operate in the absence of any institutionalized training or recruitment as shown in the case of the London bombers. These self-starter cells have to be examined with reference to the Internet as an operational tool and democratizer of violence so as to develop appropriate strategies to counter this new threat.

To martyr or not to martyr: Jihad is the question, what policy is the answer?

Article Abstract:

The mindset of terrorists, especially those who seek martyrdom, has to be analyzed on the basis of their goals, motivations, decision processes and risk taking to find methods to deter them. The focus of policy making should be on containing terrorist actions through passive defenses and denial of potential targets though so far, no policy has achieved complete success.
