Interest in self-help materials among a general population sample of smokers

Article Abstract:

A telephone survey of 267 smokers in Ontario was undertaken to determine smokers level of interest in self-help smoking cessation materials. The study revealed that 55% of smokers were very interested or somewhat interested in receiving self-help materials. A desire to quit smoking in the next six months and low income were characteristics of many of the people interested in materials.

Ecological and individual predictors of maternal smoking behaviour: looking beyond individual socioeconomic predictors at the community setting

Article Abstract:

Research indicates that country of birth, education level, marital status, socioeconomic status, occupation, and types of prenatal care influence whether a woman smokes during pregnancy. Implications for smoking cessation programs are discussed.

A study examines autonomy and depressive symptoms in men and women who attempt to quit smoking. Beck's cognitive theory of depression is used for the study.
