The aesthetics of illness: narrative, horror and the sublime

Article Abstract:

Issues regarding first-person accounts of terminal illness as giving the authors a sense of freedom and understanding of their suffering are discussed. The horrors integral to such accounts are basic to the author's symbolisation of an illness-world and use myth to understand suffering.

The Baja 1000: 25th running

Article Abstract:

The Baja 1000 celebrated its 25th anniversary in 1992 by running the race over one of the most challenging routes in its history. Of the 307 entries, only 189 finished. The driving of a Ford Ranger pickup truck in the race is described.
