Gemesis, Sarasota, Fl, and Apollo Diamond Inc, Boston, MA, have both developed new processes for creating artificial diamonds. The appearance of multicarat, gem-quality synthhetics could threaten the De Beers Group's marketing monopoly, and artificial diamonds also have import ant implications for the computing and semiconductor industries.
