The gatekeeping dilemma in undergraduate social work programs: collision of ideal and reality

Article Abstract:

Social work is a professional activity which aims to promote justice and liberty for all people by helping people improve or restore their social functioning. Social workers are people who aim to help others fulfill their needs and wants. However, it is ironic that these ideals are applied to social work students who happen to be denied the fulfillment of their own desires because they are considered ill-suited for the profession. There is a lack of national and international gatekeeping policies for those who guard the gates to this profession. This dilemma in the profession is analyzed.
