The article discusses moral and ethical issues of presenting child abuse through mass media coverage. Journalistic approaches to child abuse tend to overlook a single instance, and must be modified to alter their coverage of this widespread problem.

The author argues US laws to prevent child abuse passed since the late 1940s have had no long-term focus. Lack of continuing political interest, the nature of effective policy making, and new views of child abuse are presented.
