Opening windows in time

Article Abstract:

The work of artist B. Amore on exhibit at the Lower East Side Tenement House Museum portrays the lives of immigrant families who have lived in it. It is a collage of their photographs, artifacts and their history. These items are arranged on the center of shadow boxes with triptych doors, while their stories are written on the inside of the doors. The script is arranged in the form of fingerprints to emphasize the uniqueness of each person. Moreover, the work inspires visitors to meditate on the photos, story and the artifacts.

The art of naturalization

Article Abstract:

Brigitte Rutenberg moved from the one-month exhibition held at the Zone One Gallery in Oct 1997 to display her shadowbox collages of mixed media painting at the Rittenhouse Gallery of the Philadelphia Art Alliance from Dec 1997 to Jan 1998. Her art collection reflects her feelings about the naturalization process which she underwent in the spring of 1997 when she applied for US citizenship. The boxes represent isolation while the objects inside are the symbols of communication.
