The road less traveled: cross-cultural, international experiential learning

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted on a group of social work faculty and students from a US university who participated in an exchange program with a university in Mexico. The program aimed to develop bilingual, culturally competent social workers. The group participated in activities involving language and cultural immersion, exposure to social service agencies and visits to regional social work campuses. The results suggested that the participants showed gains in cultural competence, which were supported by qualitative data gathered via the use of journals.
