Today's refugees and the media

Article Abstract:

Today's media is called upon to avoid indifference and sensationalism and support instead a new ethical vision for a fair and accurate reporting of forced population movements. Refugees, homeless and defenseless as they are, should always be regarded as a priority in today's news. Media's role in being in solidarity with these people is to present complete and precise information about them and support migrants' rights to receive news about their countries of origin, progress in their plight and prospects for the future.

Some gaps in the comprehensive plan of action for Indo-Chinese refugees

Article Abstract:

The Comprehensive Plan of Action for Indo-Chinese Refugees (CPA) was a major experimental undertaking to solve the Vietnamese mass migration problem in a humanitarian way. The Vietnamese government agreed to curb the number of refugees leaving by boat because of the deaths that result from travel in the high seas. The government allowed citizens wishing to take refuge in other countries to leave via legal methods that included a screening process for refugee claims.

Flow of Vietnam refugees to Hong Kong seems over

Article Abstract:

The flight of Vietnamese refugees to Hong Kong seems to have finally ended as only nine Vietnamese refugees have arrived in this British territory during the first nine months of 1992. This was a remarkable contrast to the more than 20,000 refugees that came during the same period in 1991. In other southeast Asian countries, the number of new arrivals has also slowed down, while in others, there were none at all.
