Turmoil in Assam

Article Abstract:

Strained minority relations continue to threaten efforts at achieving peace in Assam. Since the 1980s, various religious and ethnic conflicts among Bengalis and Assamese have resulted in the deaths of thousands. Currently, doubts have been raised regarding a ceasefire proposed bythe United Liberation Front of Assam (UFLA). As many view the UFLA ceasefire asan end to Assam's autonomous efforts, the present situation in the area reflects the hardline stance adopted by the central government against threats of terrorism and regional instability.

The programme is having some success but needs to be operated in conjunction with better referral facilities, better literacy, and access to contraception.

Article Abstract:

The city of Lubbock, Texas, where Buddy Holly was born in Sep 1936, has always has a reputation for being rather quiet and old-fashioned. It has been slow to recognise the significance of Buddy Holly, a fact which has angered the singer's fans. However, it is now at the centre of a revival in interest in Buddy Holly, and has purchased and put on show 156 of his personal effects.
