Article Abstract:

The black granite island of Kubu in the Kalahari Desert of Botswana, Africa was formed by natural changes in the flow of rivers. Geological changes caused the rivers to flow away from the ancient Kalahari Lake, leaving behind giant salt pans. Kubu is a granite outgrowth of the pans, with a very dry and hot environment. Few plant and animal species can tolerate Kubu's drought conditions. Kubu's environment should prevent development and temper tourism.

The 'Following the Thread' art show features media works such as 'The Other Shore,' a mixed media installation by B Amore. Other works of Amore which are exhibited in the art show include the 'Ancestor Scrolls'and the 'Odyssey Installation.' These works of art, which contents consist of themes regarding migrants identity, have various aesthetic and educational meanings which Amore wants to impart to the observers.
