Privatizing the housing sector: the case of Kazakhstan from 1985-1995

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to analyze the housing situation in Kazakhstan during the Soviet regime, the economic and social processes in relation to the construction of housing in the first years since the country's independence in 1991, the processes by which housing became privatized, and the nature of housing in the developing market transition conditions. Using data between 1985 and 1995, the immediate effects of de-Sovietization in Kazakhstan are investigated.
