Furukawa Metal's footsteps

Article Abstract:

Many Thai companies are having second thoughts about their own initial public offering plans, after the collapse of Furukawa Metal (Thailand) PCL's stock when it started trading. The company is a manufacturer of seamless copper tubes used in making air-conditioning and refrigeration units. It sold 14.5 million shares during its initial public offering at 45 baht ($1.73) each in November 1996. Although, all the shares were disposed, the stock depreciated by 53% to 21 baht a share when it began trading on February 6, 1997. The stock, however, is suggested as a second long-term investment by analysts.

Who is that monk in the hood?: Friar Tuck, Francis of Assisi, and Robin Hood

Article Abstract:

Friar Tuck, the hooded monk who is a character in the legendary Robin Hood story is analyzed. The question of whether Friar Tuck was a Franciscan was addressed using the historical perspective. Using this method, Friar Tuck could not have been Franciscan. The confusion created by his inclusion in the story was due to the blurring of the line that delineates literature and history. The mythopoeic process of popular imagination is able to change characters into a different personality such as a literary hero. Questions about the identity of Robin Hood and Maid Marian were also injected.
