National competitiveness and purchasing power parity

Article Abstract:

Evidence suggests that the new concept of purchasing power parity characterizes the long-term movements in developed countries' real exchange rate. But it fails to explain the short-term movements, and also the price movements and exchange rates between rich and poor countries in both short and long term. The real exchange rate of a country reflects competitiveness of the economy. The structural and cyclical development of industries, government policy and the health of money market influences the real exchange rate in long term analysis.

The Industri-Plex Model: beneficial reuse of a Superfund site

Article Abstract:

The Industri-Plex Superfund site in Woburn, MA, is a success story in the annals of the remediation of hazardous waste sites. The property's reuse was possible because of a prospective purchaser agreement the EPA made whereby future owners had no liability for pre-existing contamination of the site. This lifting of CERCLA liability was a key factor in making the Industri-Plex property attractive to potential buyers. The property's location in a thriving industrial region with little undeveloped land did not hurt, either.
