Upgrading U.S. national security for the 21st century

Article Abstract:

An optimum and cost effective defence strategy is most important for the U.S. in 21st century. This calls for a search of an effective method rather than acquiring costly means for future needs. The experience of NATO during the fifties to opt for nuclear deterrence to offset Soviet supremacy in conventional force justifies that method plays the pivotal role. Technological advantage must be reaped to the fullest. Separation of vested interests and other negative political factors is necessary in the process of defence policy formulation.

The theater missile threat and Allied defense

Article Abstract:

Europe is particularly vulnerable to the threat of long-range cruise missiles carrying chemical or biological weapons. It can benefit from the US Ballistic Missile Defense Organization's Theater Missile Defense (TMD) programs but the cost of the core TMD program alone is approaching $20 billion. As such, it is best for the US' European partners to share the cost of putting up TMD systems to create a 'balance of terror' against weapons of mass destruction.

Technological progress and national security policy the missile defense example

Article Abstract:

The US and its allies should take immediate steps to adopt new methods for applying defense technology in the present age of nuclear advancement. Old defense policies that were laid down by service organizations in the nineteenth century are obsolete. If the bridge between old strategies and new technologies is not closed, it would prove disastrous to the national security.
