Urban Australian Aboriginal peoples' experience of human services

Article Abstract:

A research was undertaken seeking views and experiences of Aboriginal people living in Sydney about their experiences of human services using new perspectives and information on human services in urban settings. The misuse of Aboriginal liaison staff, the attitudes of staff and policy-makers, and lack of services and client rights were raised.

Defining the role of the hospital social worker in Australia: Part 2. A qualitative approach

Article Abstract:

The role of hospital social worker is explored, using qualitative methods. Findings revealed that social workers performed various tasks under the umbrella of discharge planning and their unique approach to patient care with its emphasis on self-determination often causes conflict with other medical professionals who tend to be directive.

Defining the role of the hospital social worker in Australia

Article Abstract:

The role of hospital social workers during the hospital stay and post-discharge period is assessed in a large public hospital in Sydney, Australia. Findings show that these social workers provided patients with a variety of services in which the social work profession has specific skills, knowledge and training.
