Virtue and the altruistic personality

Article Abstract:

The concept of virtue was used in the examination of theory and research on the altruistic personality. The virtues considered, which include fortitude, charity temperance, prudence and justice, were taken as the personality structure that motivates altruism. It was concluded that altruistic behavior in particular situations may not have been derived from the virtues. It was also acknowledged that positive family experiences may influence the development of an altruistic personality.

Interpreting the broader context and meaning of Bin-Laden's fatwa

Article Abstract:

The rationale of the fatwa published by Sheikh Usamah Bin-Muhammad Bin-Laden and a group of four other Islamic leaders on Feb 22, 1998 is analyzed in relation to its significance on terrorism. There is similarity between the content of this fatwa and 'The Declaration of War' issued by Bin-Laden after the bombing of the US Air Force barracks in Dharah, Saudi Arabia, in Jun 1996. The radicalism of Bin-Laden's worldview that can be recognized based on these two documents is discussed.
