When terrorism hits home: Domestic newspaper coverage of the 1998 and 2002 terror attacks in Kenya

Article Abstract:

The extent to which differing cultural, journalistic, and other influences color the coverage of terrorist acts is insufficiently explored and there is an even greater lack of examination about how terrorism is portrayed in the developing world. An analysis of the domestic newspaper coverage of the 1988 Nairobi and 2002 Mombassa terrorist attacks is undertaken to strengthen the media and terrorism literature by an enhanced analysis of non-Western cases of terrorism.
