"Wild mountains" research and the importance of going beyond it: thoughts on sociocultural anthropology in China

Article Abstract:

Chinese sociocultural anthropology, or ethnology, needs to abandon Western traditions and emphasize the culture and society of Han nationality. Social anthropologists in the US and Europe have been concentrating on their own countries since the 1960s, and that is a practice Chinese scholars should follow.

On southern ethnohistory's anthropological trend

Anthropology has, since the 1970s, made unique contributions to the synthetic and integrated study of relations between human behavior and their cultures. Chinese work in this field currently emphasizes cross-disciplinary studies and that shows considerable potential for eminent achievement.
