A really good year: the running scene grew stronger in 1995, and the best is yet to come

There was greater television coverage of running events in 1995 as well as more extensive grassroots participation. In addition, the marathon received greater attention during the year. With the Olympics and other events, there should be even more attention given to running in 1996.

Article Abstract:

Marathon runner Budd Coates is the fitness director at Rodale Press, which publishes Runner's World, and he competed in Olympic Trials in 1984 and 1988. At 35, Budd will try for the Olympics again on April 11. He is Rodale's sentimental favorite.

American runners fared well in this summer's events. There were moments of exhilaration and agony for them. Lynn Jennings distinguished herself as the only US runner who won an event longer than 800 meters in finishing third in the 10,000.
