Alvah Simon and his wife spent 13 years traveling around the Arctic Circle. He described their experiences in his book 'Ultima Thule.' The book provides stories about the difficulties of living in a below freezing environment and strong winds. He also described the natural beauty of the Arctic.

Sailors Alvah and Diane Simon are the recipients of 'Cruising World' magazine's 1997 Award for Outstanding Seamanship. The couple spent a year anchored 500 miles north of the Arctic Circle near Canada's Baffin Island.
