And the walls came tumbling down

Article Abstract:

The 1999 Diving Equipment and Marketing Assn trade show in New Orleans, LA, presents three developments in the diving industry. Computer maker Compaq and scuba equipment maker Oceanic launched an online shopping system that guarantees sale to people with scuba licenses via Oceanic's web site. PADI launches two new programs, Bubblemakers and Scuba Diver, that ensures a diving certificate after completion of the classes. Aggressor Fleet's Wayne Hasson developed a new surface air snorkeling gear featuring BC with hard-wired buoyancy that prevents snorkelers from diving underwater.

Dehydrated and don't know it?

Article Abstract:

Dehydration is one of the most common problems faced by divers which can lead to decompression sickness, fatigue and hypothermia, to name a few. The best way to combat dehydration is for divers to drink as much fluid as they lose. They should also be aware of practices that can cause dehydration such as believing that coffee, beer and soda provide sufficient fluids and thinking that fluid loss through sweat will stop once they get into the water.

Diving's dangerous secret

Article Abstract:

Overbreathing is a problem that afflicts scuba divers when they demand more air than their regulators can provide. Overbreathing occurs unexpectedly and leads to an out-of-breath, suffocating feeling. However, this problem can be prevented by using high-performance regulators. Such regulators have been tested with a breathing machine in the ocean at depths of over 130 feet to ensure that divers cannot overbreath them.
