Assessing functional ankle instability with joint position sense, time to stabilization, and electromyography

Article Abstract:

A comparison of joint position sense (JPS), time to stabilization (TTS), and electromyography (EMG) of ankle musculature in recreational athletes with and without functional ankle instability (FAI) was made. It was concluded that subjects with FAI demonstrated deficits in landing adaptive changes and soleus muscle activity during landing that may represent chronic adaptive changes following injury.

The effect of external ankle support on vertical ground-reaction force and lower body kinematics

Article Abstract:

A study evaluated the effects of external ankle support on vertical ground reaction forces (VGRF) and lower extremity three-dimensional joint kinematics during drop landings. Results show a significant increase in peak VGRF and loading rate (LR), and a significant decrease in ankle angle change at right-foot contacts in braced trials compared with the nonbraced condition.

Pain perception during repeated ice-bath immersion of the ankle at varied temperatures

Article Abstract:

Levels of pain perceived during ice-bath immersion at distinct temperatures are determined. It is concluded that pain depends on treatment temperature and patients might report inconsistent pain ratings with varying temperatures.
