Several headlamps are reviewed from their burn time, light power and coverage pattern. The items range in price from $10 to $42. They include the Coghlan's Water-proof light, which was found to have a clean beam, but was tight around the head and the Princeton Tec Vor Tec, which got a high rating.

Filling the void: the proper way to stuff your pack and ease the burden on your back

Article Abstract:

A well-organized, weight-distributed pack makes backpacking more enjoyable. Heavy items should be packed close to the back, near the top. Small, frequently needed items should be kept in side pockets. Self-inflating sleeping pads should be strapped to the outside in a stuff sack.
