Article Abstract:

A sailor describes the way he purchased a boat his 42-foot Fountaine Pajot Venezia catamaran, which he called Jangada and his sail to Mexico's Sea of Cortez. He describes his learning experiences in Jangada to use the navigation software on the personal computer, operate the single-sideband radio to get daily weather faxes, program the autopilot and manage their power consumption during his sail.

Article Abstract:

A sailor describes his memories in his tall ship Alvei when a 123-foot gaff topsail schooner called Sofia sank due to a wild storm attack. Sofia sank off New Zealand's Cape Reinga during a gale in 1982, leaving him and 15 others stranded in life rafts and a death of a crewmember.
