Cardiorespiratory and metabolic responses to exercise in HbSC sickle cell patients

Article Abstract:

Metabolic and cardiorespiratory responses to exercise have been studied in heterozygous sickle cell disease (HbSC) patients. Importance of considering relative work rate as well as absolute work rate to accurately interpretexercise and revoery data was reinforced. Evidence that the changes in homeostasis exercise brings shifts toward significantly lower absolute work rates in HbSC patients was seen.

Catecholamine, blood lactate and ventilatory responses to multi-cycle-run blocks

Article Abstract:

This article examines the blood lactate, norepinephrine, and epinephrine levels in triathletes during brief, continuous bouts of cycling and running. Results indicate that cardiorespiratory responses and concentrations of lactate and norepinephrine were similar to levels taken during a single cycle-run session lasting fifty minutes, but epinephrine levels were significantly higher.

Exercise training with a heart device: a hemodynamic, metabolic, and hormonal study

Article Abstract:

This article examines the beneficial effects of a six-week exercise program on a cardiogenic shock patient with a left ventricular assist device. Results indicate that submaximal exercise produced improvements in peak power, oxygen consumption, and cardiac output without adverse hemodynamic or neuro-hormonal effects.
