Gastrointestinal mucosal integrity after prolonged exercise with fluid supplementation

Article Abstract:

Results show that incidence of gastrointestinal disorder symptoms varied from 5% to 68% and most occurred during running than during cycling. The study found no significant differences between carbohydrate drink or water supplements and mucosal integrity was not severely compromised.

Correlated neurocardiologic and fitness changes in athletes interrupting training

Article Abstract:

Correlated neurocardiologic and fitness changes have been studied in nine Dutch athletes who were male top marathon skaters interrupting training for one month after the last contest of the season. A possible decline in baroreflex sensitivity was to be considered. Correlated detrimental changes in fitness and baroreflex sensitivity were measurable in the athletes after the interruption.

Gastrointestinal symptoms during long-distance walking

Article Abstract:

Studies indicate that gastrointestinal disorders can compromise exercise performance. Although causal links between intense, prolonged exercise and gastrointestinal symptoms have been established, research shows that symptoms may occur with lower intensity exercise such as long-distance walking. Symptoms were not linked to a subject's gender, physical fitness, age or walking speed.
