Coaching climates and the destructive effects of mastery-avoidance achievement goals on situational motivation

Article Abstract:

A model of social-cognitive influences on situational motivation was tested through youths 2x2 achievement goals and also, important questions concerning associations between youths' perceptions of the coaching climate, and changes in situational motivation were framed. Latent growth curve analyses revealed that intrinsic motivation and identified regulation did not appear to change over the course of the season and external regulation and amotivation increased significantly.

Precompetitive anxiety in sport: the contribution of achievement goals and perfectionism

Article Abstract:

Prediction models for assessing performance-related anxiety can use correlations between a variety of achievement goal factors for reliable analysis. Confidence is affected by perceived ability, personal standards and task goals. Cognitive anxiety is influenced by perfectionism, ego, and concern over errors. Somatic anxiety is impacted by doubts about action.
