Coming from behind: on the effect of psychological momentum on sport performance

Article Abstract:

Studies indicate that psychological momentum (PM) can have a perceived impact on athletic performance. Subjects participating in a bicycle race experienced raised perceptions of PM either while leading or regaining the lead, and had lower perceptions of PM when losing the lead. Both leading and losing PM enhanced performance, through positive and negative facilitation respectively.
