Confirmatory factor analysis of the group environment questionnaire with an intercollegiate sample

Article Abstract:

A study tests the extent to which the first-order four-factor model can be confirmed with an intercollegiate athlete sample. It also examines the extent of covariation caused by higher-order factors among the four first-order factors. It uses confirmatory factor analysis to test first- and second-order factor models of the Group Environment Questionnaire (GEQ). The results reveal that models of theoretical interest fit better than alternative models. This indicates that GEQ has ample reliability and consistency as a measure of sport group cohesion for the sample under study.
