Control of airway function during and after exercise in asthmatics

Article Abstract:

Variability of airway function during exercise for asthmatics is caused by several factors. These include inflammatory mediators, bronchoconstrictor and bronchodilator mediators, the mechanical aspects of varied levels of ventilation, and the interaction between airways and lung parenchyma. Other elements that affect airway function include exercise duration, level of intensity, and constant load.

Repeated peripheral airway hyperpnea causes inflammation and remodeling in dogs

Article Abstract:

Research shows that airway undergoes changes similar to those seen in asthma when peripheral airway is subjected to repeated cooling and desiccation as demonstrated in a canine model of hyperpnea with cold. Data suggest that asthma-like symptoms in winter ahlets may be due to the repeated hyperpnea with cold air.

Airway reactivity and diving in healthy and atopic subjects

Article Abstract:

Research shows that in atopic nonasthmatics SCUBA diving causes development of early airway hyperresponsiveness to methacholine. Results indicate that hyperbaric-chamber tests simulate SCUBA dives in eliciting change in airway responsiveness, suggesting it can be used for routine tests.
