Cross-validation of modified fatness-specific bioelectrical impedance equations

Article Abstract:

Studies indicate that fat-free mass can be predicted using fatness-specific bioelectrical impedance equations. In test subjects who were neither obese nor lean, bioelectrical impedance equations compared favorably with hydrostatic weighing. Accuracy for adult male subjects was 91%, with 88% accuracy for adult female subjects. The practicality and ease of these equations make them useful for assessing diverse groups.

Validation of air displacement plethysmography for assessing body composition

Article Abstract:

An air displacement plethysmography device called the Bod Pod appears to consistently underestimate body density, resulting in an overestimate of body fat. More research is needed before this device can replace hydrostatic weighing.
